The town of Novi Pazar is located in north-eastern Bulgaria and it is close to   numerous attractions. The town is only 6 km away from the first Bulgarian capital Pliska, near the second Bulgarian capital Veliki Preslav, the Madarian Horseman – Madara, which is on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Ovech Fortress – Provadia, the Shumen Fortress, etc.

The first edition of the festival is dedicated to the celebration of the 140th anniversary of the announcement of Novi Pazar for a town, the town ‘s holiday October 14 and the holiday of the church St. Petka Paraskeva.
          We are proud to have treasured up the choral art in Novi Pazar for more than 147 years. Its popularization and spreading is through generations of choristers who have participated in various choral groups over the years.

Organizers:

Organizers and hosts of the second International Festival of Choral Art Land of Glorious Ancestors, Novi Pazar, Bulgaria 2024 are Novi Pazar Municipality and Hristo Botev – 1872 Community Center – Novi Pazar. With the assistance of the National Historical-Archaeological Reserve „Pliska“ to the Regional Historical Museum – Shumen and the Church „St. Petka Paraskeva“ in Novi Pazar.

Purposes:

  • to promote choral music;
  • to show and promote church chants;
  • to support making new creative contacts between Bulgarian and foreign choirs;
  • opportunity to exchange repertoire.

Date and place of the event:

The second International Choir Art Festival Land of Glorious Ancestors,Novi Pazar, Bulgaria will be held on 05-06/10/2024.

Тhe festival venue:

  • the temple of St. Petka Paraskeva in Novi Pazar (for the participants in category I);
  • the auditorium of the Hristo Botev – 1872 Community center in Novi Pazar;
    (for participants in category II)
  • the great basilica in the National Historical and Archaeological Reserve „Pliska“ (outdoor concert with the participants of the festival).

Who can participate in the festival?

  • Bulgarian and foreign church choirs, amateur choirs and chamber ensembles

The participants in the festival are divided into two categories

   First category:

  • Bulgarian and foreign church choirs /mixed and homogeneous/ who perform Orthodox church chants and participate in Orthodox worship;
  • Bulgarian and foreign amateur choirs /mixed and homogeneous/, which perform Orthodox church chants.

Second category:

  • Bulgarian and foreign amateur choirs /mixed and homogeneous/ who perform secular music;

Age groups:

  • First age group – up to 17 years;
  • Second age group – over 17 years.

Rules for participation:

Church choirs, amateur choirs and chamber ensembles participating in the second International Festival of Choral Art Land of Glorious Ancestors, Novi Pazar, Bulgaria, present a program under the following regulations:

  • All choirs and chamber ensembles who wish to participate in the festival send an application form and provide the organizers with a link to a video made in the current year, up to 5 photos of the ensembles and 1 of the conductor by e-mail: npazar_chitalishte@abv.bg up to 15/06/2024;
Application 2024
  • All choirs and chamber ensembles from both categories perform songs with a total duration of up to 15 minutes;
  • Repertoire – Orthodox church chants and secular music.

          It is mandatory to include in the program:
– a song about Bulgaria chosen by the conductor;
– at the final for a joint performance – Bulgaria starts from here! (Ot Tuk Zapochva Bulgaria) and For Many Years (Na Mnogaya Leta) (will be provided with notation text to all participants).

Further conditions:

  • All participants in the festival receive a certificate of participation and a plaque.
  • The order of participation is determined by the organizers and is not subject to change by the participants.
  • The organizers reserve the right to make changes to the festival program.
  • The expenses for travel, accommodation and meals are at the expense of the participants.
  • The organizers reserve the rights to photograph, film and record the performances in order to create an archive and advertise the festival without paying rights and compensations.
